I recently came into possession of a Kingston Data Traveller, USB flash drive. All the literature says that the drivers are built into Mac OS 9.x and higher. Unfortunately, I have OS 8.6, right now, and I'm not going to be upgrading to 9.x for a while yet.

I have an OS 9 install CD. Does anyone know what files I would have to extract in order to install into OS 8.6 to make the drive visible? I should note that the USB port does see the drive; I just can't get into it.

Any suggestions (or extracted files ;) greatly appreciated.

First off, try installing USB Card Support and Game Sprockets 1.7.5.

You can find both installers here:
<http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/USB_Updates/>

(you really don't need game sprockets, but what the heck, it's the latest version for your OS. Couldn't hurt.)

Also, the flash drive might need a mac specific driver on it to work with your computer. I think a visit to their website might prove fruitful if this is the case. You might need to borrow the use of a USB equipped PC in order to get the driver on the flash drive.

And while I'm pimping USB software, go and grab a copy of USB Overdrive <http://www.usboverdrive.com> THE killer app for USB input devices like mice and joysticks. This thing makes multibutton/scrollwheel USB mice rock on a Mac.
