I ran a 4400/200 as an email machine 24/7 for a couple years until recently. 1.Suggest you swap power supply with a known good one just before trying the hard drive in another machine. A flaky PS can do things as you describe, and it wasn't the best PS Apple ever used. 2.If you do have to go all the way into the machine, try renewing the dielectric grease between the processor and the heat sink-that caused the demise of three 7100s I was fighting with, and the heat sinks are similar. It may be too far gone, but it is worth a shot. 3. When you start swapping components, write down exactly what you swap, in order. From bitter experience I have learned it is way too easy to get confused when in the heat of battle with these things!! Don Bowers, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
