A few days ago I posted ;

Hi Listers,

Ethernet via a crossover cable had been working very well until this week.The machine with the problem is a 9600 running OS 9.1.
Somehow the Appletalk settings were changed. The connection which I had set at ethernet suddenly was changed to printer port. It does this every time the machine is booted.

When I try to save the "active" setting an error panel says there is a problem with the connection. A change to regular cables and a hub has not helped. The PRAM is zapped . The control panel reinstalled. Finder prefs trashed. The desktop rebuilt., and all steps in setup retraced.

The only software installed recently is a prefs file for a math education program. There is 2.2 Gig of free space. And 500 MB of Ram.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this problem ?

TIA

There were some responses. so I worked along those lines..

Techtool lite 1.2 is all I have. It didn't work How about if I just pull the battery for a few minutes ? Or is Mandate in nvram ? Maybe a Cuda reset ?

The ASLM, Finder,MacOS and System prefs were all trashed. The battery is new. Cat cables are new. Electronic contact cleaner was applied to the port.

Nothing has cured it yet.

I'll look on the swap list for the Techtool Pro 3 plus. And a full install disk of 9.1 in case I have to do a clean install.

Today I made sure the fax extensions were disabled. Still no connection.

Does anyone have any more ideas ?

TIA again,

-- Adrian
