Apologies ... my ATAs are of the older parallel type ... I am just curious how they compare to your 9600 based system. I would guess the Serials would be bottlenecked by the PCI bus speed.

I agree with checking out those sites ...

I have an 8500/180 (50MHz) with a Sonnet G4/450 and have a Sonnet Trio FW/USB/ATA card installed. The ATA is 133 and my ATA drives are Seagate ATA/100s. I only get 18.5MB R/W Quickbench performance testing ... under OS X 10.2.8.

Probably the 33MHz PCI bus? and the Trio is an overkill (for this machine, anyway)?

Anyone on the list have experience with these newer drives? What

I'd like to know as well. Only thing is whether a PCI Mac's slower PCI bus can take advantage of one. My 9600/g4/450 has a Sonnet Tempo ATA66 card with Maxtor 30GB 7200rpm drive and it benchmarks at around 32MB/sec. read, well short of the theoretical 66MB/sec. max. I gather a SATA card and drive wouldn't fare much better due to the >> bottleneck.

Has anyone benchmarked a SATA card and drive in a PCI Mac?

My two sites for benchmarks are <http://www.barefeats.com/> and <http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/> both of which have SATA and Hard Drive information.
