Listers,

I just upgraded my 7200 to a 7500 with a motherboard swap etc.

Info gleaned from this list and LEM in general helped a lot. However, I did
run into one problem that I don't remember seeing mentioned anywhere.

The problem was with the VRAM. The 7200 comes with 1MB soldered to the
motherboard. It will work with just that. The 7500 motherboard has no VRAM.
You have to supply AT LEAST 2MB, using the VRAM slots provided.

In my situation, I had an extra 1MB card of VRAM in my 7200, and transfered
it to the 7500. The "7500" booted fine, with all the right noises, but
there was no video. Zapping the PRAM would get me to a very grainy start up
screen, that then reverted to a white screen with a magenta stripe that
moved with the mouse, then to just the white screen.

After looking at the machine specs, and the available VRAM slots, I
surmised that I was 1MB short in VRAM. My local Mac repair shop verified
that by adding another VRAM card, which I ended up purchasing to get the
machine running.

Moral: be prepared to supply 2MB of VRAM when upgrading from the 7200 to
7500 motherboard.

Otherwise, all went well, and I've already installed a G3 daughter card.
