Or if you have Personal Web Sharing enabled. IIRC it's not that secure in OS 8/9.

There is of course a need to check for viruses even if you can not be infected 
yourself.Just becuase you prefer a Mac doesn't mean you can get away wiyth infecting 
your PC using brethren with a Windows virus, even if it is pretty hard in mjost Mac 
mail clients.

If you are using OS X try the Mail.app program. It's simple and effective and culls 
most Spam. A little slips thru but then Spammers come up with a new way top beat spam 
filters every hour - and Mail.app never lets the same stuff through twice.
