Yeah Assuming you have OS 8 ( I think this is the lowest ) or above go to the Apple site and download the USB card support update (version 1.4.1 I think. Everything such work instantly after it is installed and the system rebooted.
Ha!! Didn't for me... still can't use my USB cards (I have 2 2-ports and Support 1.4.1... Apple System profiler shows the cards, but not any item plugged into them (eg Olympus SmartCard reader).
If it does not work clean the card edge and slot . Reseat the card fully.
Should be good to go
