SCSI drives like Barracudas generate a certain amount of noise as the
clutch engages the platter and the head is rolled into position. Normally
the clickety-clack noise they generate is tolerable, except when the
spindle motor's bearings start to dry up and begin to emit a high pitch
continuous whine which can be annoying.

You could move them outboard via external SCSI or use quieter IDE drives
via PCI ATA card.
