Is it in the above-power supply bay? I took the Medalist out of that bay in my 9600 and put it in the front bay where the Zip100 used to be. It's now practically inaudible with only that drive running. That said early Seagate Barracuda and Hawk drives (7200rpm and 5400rpm respectively) are very loud and whiney. High pitch noise tends to be the drive, while mid-pitch and low-pitch vibrations and harmonics are usually the case.
