Hi Listers,
I'm wondering whether I should put a 3dfx card that I got lying around in my
7600/G4.
I don't know what model it is yet....all It says on the card is that it was made in
2000 (could it be a voodoo 3 or 4 maybe? I don't want to pry the heatsink off the
GPU). BUT, its a PC card so I know I have to flash it somehow.
The question is: I'm wondering what kind of performance boost I'll see under OS9
and 10.2.8...and is it possible to run 10.3 with the card, since I know that onboard
video isn't supported?
Thanks

The Voodoo 3, 4, and 5 have excellent performance under OS 9. However, the drivers were never updated for OS X (beyond the 10.0 release) so they end up completely un-accelerated under OS X, and in some cases need to be removed to install X. A good starting point is <http://www.mac3dfx.com/>.

If you don't do it excellently, don't do it at all. Because if
it's not excellent, it won't be profitable or fun, and if you're not in
business for fun or profit, what the hell are you doing there?"
