I had removed the original 4gb HD and moved the 9.1gb HD into its place, over the power-supply. And moved the 36gb (startup disc) HD from its bay to the floor and connected this to the 2nd SCSI bus. This was all in order to fit a Jaz drive in the lower bay, where the 36gb was previously.
Then I realized that some of my most important files were on the 4gb, so I removed the 9.1 and refitted the 4 in its original place, connected to the end of SCSI bus 1 as originally.
Hit the CUDA switch, connected everything & booted.
It got to the default desktop pattern and was about to ooad extensions when it froze with the error message:
"Sorry, a system error occurred address error To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold down the shift key"
Instead I shut down and disconnected the Jaz. On reboot the same thing happened... every time I booted.
So I reconnected the Jaz and disconnected the 4gb HD. Problem gone (though I got a "clock set to time before 1973..." despite a new battery). Shut down again, reconnected 4gb, problem back
So what the hell is the problem now?? It is back to original configuration as far as the 4gb is concerned; it's not an ID conflict... GREMLINS!!!!!
And does a Jaz drive need its own software? It doesn't appear on my System profiler, unlike the Zip 100.
