Apparently the ADB chip does not have great overvoltage protection (usually strategically placed diodes to sink the overvoltage).
heh. Which brings up a more general pet peeve of mine... Apple seems to put little to no protection (surge, overvoltage, whatever) on any port! Fried ADB. Fried USB. Fried Firewire. Fried modems. Tasty NOT. Happens waaaaay too often in Apple products!
