There are "SSE" (Six Slot Edition) ZIF carriers available, which cover 9500s and 9600s (and for PCC Power Tower Pros).
IIRC, the specific problem occurs when trying to install more than four bus-mastering PCI cards.
The PowerPC architecture supports this, but the non-SSE carriers don't handle more than four cards properly.
I recently purchased an XLR8 MAChCarrier G4 450 upgrade from Daystar. It was listed as fully compatible with a 9500, which is what I plan on using it in. I saw the SSE model specific for six slot machines listed for more money. I called Daystar and was told the SSE upgrades have actually been discontinued and that all their newer upgrades listed for powermacs will work just fine in 9500s (all slots will work).
I got real busy so mine is still sitting in it's box waiting for me to get back to my upgrade project. RAM snafu issue has me waiting for a time when I'm up to taking apart, then reassembling this9500 5 or 6 times in a row.
