running 9.2.2.  The media player is 7.1.2.   Is it a file type that I would
need OS10 for?  Is there a codec that would help?

Upgrade Quicktime to Pro so you'll have all the file translators.

wot ? Quicktime does not play any windoze files, as far as I have 
experienced, I have the same problem with those wmv files, Quicktime 
doesnt even play Quicktime files made on a pc. and AVI = forget it
