I have an Epson Stylus 900 and I've been having problems with the ink

this and whether it is the cartridges themself or the printer heads are
going bad. It happens with the Black cartridges. thanks
Of the 4 Epson Stylus Color 900's and 1 x 980 (USB & Parallel Only), I have never had or seen what you are describing. The only thing I can think of is that maybe your cleaning pads are saturated and when your printer cycles up, the overspray (splashing) gets onto the carriage and then gets applied as it crosses the paper. (Just guessing tho)
Do a nozzle check and see if it is spraying a complete pattern. That should tell you if there is cause for concern.
You probably have a minor problem that may require a qualified individual to correct.
They are an excellent printer, and with the help of good 3rd party ink they will deliver considerable value for their money.
