The two words most likely to fit this situation are, "JOBS WON'T".
Apple Computer was crippled in the path it should have taken when run
by uninspired executives hired to manage but not "Bought Into The Dream"
of what Apple was in the ninties.

All along the PC has become less and less expensive to the point that I can
go to
any computer retailer and put together a machine that has gigs of memory,
mega-gigs
of hard disk, megs of video card and gigs of processor for around $400.

It's hard to find a new Mac for under $1000.

I love all my Macs. But the question is a daunting; haunting "Do I REALLY
want to pay THAT MUCH for a computer when all I do is websurf, email
and sell on eBay?"

Apple may have an economy-of-scale issue. They can't get processors for what
the PC people pay for AMDs. Motherboards are proprietary, too.

I believe we can't see a $499 new Macintosh. I know if Apple's going to
survive we
NEED to see a new $499 Mac. Or just get behind Job's idea of Apple as a
consumer
electronics company that once upon a time made insanely great
computers........
