The internet is more like a net, not a spider web. IOW you don't always get connected to the same place via the same route.
One time you may get connected to your neighbor via Brazil, the next time via Moscow.
It uses whatever is available to get there

I was thinking same browser same ISP, same test page. But I take it you're saying that out on the web there will be a variation in routing depending on ISP traffic, time of day, phase of the moon ets.

How about if you picked a test page URL close to home like the city web site or one for the local newspaper ? That would cut some distance and hopefully take out at least some of the routing variance. Also repeated trials say 3 or 5 ( whatever one has patience for ) could give an average.

Ideally the machines would be side by side and testing take place back to back or intermingled. ( sequentially ).

Here is also a test page URL http://www.mactechnicalservices.com/test.htm

But then this would also be subject to routing variations.
