For anyone scratching the bottom of the barrel for a cheap display card for a PCI Mac, you may be interested to know that a Matrox Millennium II (MGA-MIL/2B) (175 MHz RAMDAC / 2 Mb VRAM upgradeable to 4 or 8 Mb) card for PC can be flashed for Mac use. It is a 1995 card, so does not perform very well, but if you don't have money to spend on your PCI PowerMac and need a cheap graphics card, it fits the ticket.
The process I used was this: 1. Set switch No. 1 on the video card to 'on' (bios unprotected) 2. Insert the card in an empty slot in a PCI Mac with working inbuilt video (I used a 7300/180) 3. Download from http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/latest/home.cfm the file bios301mil.hqx to the machine and unstuff 4. Run Matrox ProgBios (found in the 'Flasher' folder created during the unstuff) 5. In the small ProgBios window at the bottom there should appear something like Model: Millennium Driver version: ??? (I forget what it used to show) and ASP should recognise the card as card type 519, vendor 102b. 6. Click the update button. This should produce a message something like "BIOS successfully updated. Reboot?" Click 'Yes'. 7. When run after reboot, ProgBios should now show at the bottom: Model: Millennium Driver version: 3.01.000 (firmware), and ASP should show under Display Card: Card type: display Card name: MTRX,Millennium Card model: 2605 Card vendor ID: 102B 8. With machine turned off, reset switch 1 to 'off' (bios protected). Don't try this on the older Millennium (no II) model - reliable previous posts assure that it will not work.
