Thats just it, though. Moxie didn't work. I removed the Apple card, reset the CUDA, installed the NewerTech card and was rewarded with dead silence when I started up. So I removed the NT card, wrote down another possible jumper setting and reset the CUDA again and re-installed the card again, and again and again. Bummer. MacGurus has a bunch of nonsense about specific NewerTech incompatibility issues with NON-74FCT "162244" RAM chips that I thought might be an issue, but I got advice from someone on THIS LIST about the jumper settings and now the card is performing like a champ !!!
