>>> Due to the lack of 9.1-compatible upgrades (USB 2.0 hubs, 1.0gHz ZIfs
etc), I am considering going from OS9.1 to 9.2 (don't like OSX and
refuse to replace all of my software).

If I do go to 9.2, will all of my software still work?

USB 2.0 is only available under OSX (not sure which, if all, versions). USB
1.0 is available from 8.6 and up, IIRC.

The OS version has nothing to do with the speed of the processor in your
machine, upgrade card or otherwise. That is a hardware issue alone.

I have some software that works with 8.6, but not with 9.2

A few weeks ago on this list it was established that the PCI slots in a legacy PCI Mac are not capable of USB 2.0 speeds.

That makes sense. I didn't see that; thanks for the update.

Is the same true of Firewire 400/800 PCI cards?

I believe I read here that FW 800 is beyond the capability of a legacy PCI Mac.

I would be happy to be wrong about that.
