Serial ATA is newer technology and can transfer more data. IDE is the old technology, still pretty good data transfer rate but not as much as Serial ATA. Unless you are using your computer to play games or do some really data intense stuff (in term of moving a lot of data in and out of the HD), you can probably stick with the IDE drive. Of course, if the price difference is not that much, then go with the Serial ATA
