Thanks for the info, guys! Sounds like I need to retain the PCI/ATA card if I want this to run at any kind of speed. Also, sounds like I need to reformat the HFS hard drive to HFS+ to save some space regardless of where it ends up.

I did neglect to mention the fact that the SuperMac has a PowerLogix G3 375 - 400 upgrade card in it, so running 9.2 or OS X should be possible. I just didn't know whether or not the computer would boot with 9.2.2 already installed on the HD without OS 9 Helper or, for that matter, Jaguar already installed on an IDE drive without Xpost Facto. Sounds like it would be a worth a try.
