I could not tear off the app menu. I ticked on the app switcher ext in the ext manager. I could tear off the app menu.
Following your query, I tried the reverse:
I could tear off the app menu. I got rid of the tear off. I unticked the app switcher ext in ext manager. I could not tear off the app menu.
Also I did this by substituting the ext manager bit with good old fashioned diving into the ext folder and disabled ext folder and mousing the app switcher between the two. Same result.
Also I got Sherlock up and looked for Application Switcher on the start up disk. There was only one. And Sherlock said it was where I had put it.
Perhaps I should not be so surprised. I guess some ext must be init types and others not... Just I carelessly thought they all would be somehow... I'm sure I knew this way back, embarrassing...

I was not aware of this and have to admit I never was. I'll have to look into my " Mac Secrets " book for info on this.
Sometime it might be handy to know which ones this can be done to. Like if you have a project going and don't want to reboot for some unpredictable reason. But need a particular extension turned on.
