oops! Now it looks like I gave the guy advice about how to rob a bank in my
last post! Let anyone wanting to beat me up, restrain themselves a moment:

What was I thinking? I think I just did not think about this possibility at
all. Maybe I should have been and was not because of the indirectness of the
issue, to do with OS changing. To those offended, accept my apologies, and I
will now look out for the slightest hint of any sliminess in any questions
before feeling it safe to offer advice.

Having said this, let me now say something in fairness to the original
poster, he should not simply be assumed not to have legal right. Maybe he
lost the original disk, maybe it got damaged, maybe the original owner lost
the disk or it was damaged and passed the right on explicitly or otherwise
with the only thing he had left of the software in the form of the HD, maybe
a lot of things. Maybe it is very old software and difficult to legally
obtain replacement. Maybe records have been genuinely lost making
replacement difficult but not thereby forfeiting any legal right. Maybe,
again, a lot of things.

You know, maybe a guy should be presumed innocent until there is more to go
on. Maybe folk should not assume the worst about people. Maybe life is more
complicated than "you are either with us or against us". A rising anger is
now swelling in my breast, more indignant even than that in the average
vigilante mind so I guess I better stop by recommending a very good film
called "12 Angry Men", Henry Fonda. Top film. Everything is not always how
it seems.
