I have a stock 9600/300 that I run SBC DSL on it. My 9600 is not
accelerated and has 224 MB of RAM. I also have an Orange Micro card in the
9600. It is running SBC DSL.

So I can say the answer is YES YOU CAN.

Quite frankly, I have had so much trouble with my iMac and so little
trouble with the 9600 and my two 7100's (and even an old IIci) that I am
thinking of stuffing a larger hard drive in the 9600, dropping in the
fastest accelerator I can buy, putting on a system 10 partition, upgrading
the 7100's and the IIci and giving the iMac the boot.

Oh, by the way, one of the 7100's gets on SBC DSL using system 8.6 and does
just fine. The other one has not had the software loaded on it. All of the
computers share the DSL modem by means of a router, which also gives
protection from attack and spying (although I still maintain active copies
of Norton Person Firewall on each machine).
