I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to respond to my question about the Ethernet installed on my PM7500.
I'm taking the plunge and getting DSL next month. I understand that there are Ethernet extensions that will need to be installed (and that are available on my 9.1 install disk, right?). I'll also need a firewall. There's one on the 9.1 install disk--DoorStop Personal 2.0--but I believe that's it's a demo. I would appreciate recommendations on a firewall. Cost is a consideration here.
A Mac running OS 9.1 isn't in great need of a firewall, it doesn't have many open ports.
The Ethernet extensions are usually installed with the OS. To check, just open AppleTalk or TCP/IP control panels and click on the Connect via: pop up menu. There should be an Ethernet or Built-in Ethernet entry there. If there is then at least some of the extensions are there and most likely all.

Thanks for any help.-------- I would suggest investing a few $$ in a router (you should be able to pick up something like a Linksys router with 4 port built in switch for $30 or so. I have seen wired/wireless router/ switches for less than $40 if you watch the adds.
Easy to set up and then you connect your DSL modem to the router, and your computer to the router. You have room for expansion if you get a second computer. My "old" Linksys has a built-in hardware firewall. No fuss, no muss.
A NAT router by itself provides a firewall as there simply isn't anywhere for attacks to go except the router or any ports you map. And there isn't much of anything to attack on the router itself.
