I have finally been piqued enough to ask.
I keep reading you guys messing with cache, bigger, smaller, faster, slower.
For what purpose?
Unless you have a large memory intense project. like adding gausian (sp) blur in Photoshop, rendering movies or sorting large files, does it really make any noticeable difference?
I don't think that any of that is noticeable to the average computer user who opens files, types, copies, surfs, etc.

Computer owners like me are tweakers and tuners by nature.
I like to get the most performance out of my Macs that I use every day. Since my G3 went down, I'm using the XLR8 accelerated 7600.
I've put a 10% faster SCSI server drive in it. It has 224 MB of RAM. It will run at 240mhz. If I try to push it faster it bombs.
So, I'm looking at putting in an ATA 66 card to speed hard disk access even more. AND, I want the most speed I can get without tossing hundreds at it.
After using a G4 eMac at 1ghz on a dial-up I would have to say I agree with you on the not-noticeable scale. BUT, I need the most speed I can get from my machine. And I love to fart with my Macs. Therefore the queries.

So it's really a matter of 'because I can'? Risking frequent crashes.
I do GoLive on either my 200mhz 9500 or my 400mhz 9500. I notice no difference. The only time I see a differences is when comparing doing movies on either 9500 vs. the 700mhz eMac
