It's a 4-component laser, based upon a Canon marking engine which HP didn't pick up for its Color LaserWriter. Kind of an orphan ... one of the few orphans Canon ever made. Kinko's standardized on Color LaserWriters for its first generation of networkable (PC and Mac) color laser printers, but it quickly abandoned the Apple printer for the Tektronix Phaser (later sold to Xerox, but only after Adobe Systems had adopted the TEK color imaging models, and had granted to TEK a license for true Adobe PostScript). Kinko's, and others, have used the Phaser ever since. There are newer, cheaper, and better color laser printers, which also offer netwoeking and PostScript. Check-out Brother, for one. Also, Minolta (formerly QMS). -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
