It has become very difficult to surf the web with this set up. Email goes through fine, but getting connected to web sites is difficult and extremely slow. I am on a dial-up modem, 56000. I don't see possible upgrade to X anytime soon. Would changing from AOL to ? be better? Anything I can do to this computer to assist. I will have to drop the internet service if I can't do better. It's not worth the $17.95 (discounted price) I am getting AOL.>>
You can use other browsers with AOL 5.0. I gave up on the AOL 5.0 browser except for certain favorite sites it works with. Your could use WamCom Mozilla 1.3.1 (my favorite, http://www.wamcom.org/), Netscape 7.02, IE 5.17, iCab and there are probably others. Just fire up AOL and open the alternative browser it will take over the web sites. AOL has treated its Mac subscribers poorly. I doubt if AOL will ever upgrade AOL 5.0 for old world Macs. Even if your run OS X with the AOL OSX version on an unsupported Mac with Xpostfacto as I have; you still won't be able to Email any LEM lists. AOL OSX does not support truly plain text messages. There is some weird code it sends in the mails that all LEM lists I subscribe to that will cause all messages to bounce -- no matter how you set the preferences. With all that said I still have my reasons for continuing my AOL subscription. However there is no shortage of alternate services out there if you are dissatisfied. --glen -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
