Wow ...

The drive is a LOT of drive ... Close to overkill ...

BUT

A SCA (80-pin) drive requires a converter - 80-pin to either 68-pin or 50-pin.
10K drives are HOT and can be noisy (Seagate typically)
LVD drive can run as SE - but loses potential
Also LVD drives do NOT have internal termination ...
requires termination on cable, or another 'terminated' drive.

2940UW card is 40 Mb/sec - LVD is either 160 or 320 Mb/sec
2940UW has two internal connectors - 1 50-pin; 1 68-pin
and 1 68-pin external connector. You can use ANY TWO together.
Mac version is 2940UW PowerDomain

PC 2940UW cannot be 'flashed' to Mac - flash memory is too small for Mac needs.
Price is about right - last 2940UW I saw on LEM Swap was @ $25.

Personally I think an IBM 18ES (7200 rpm) w/be a better drive for a 7600.
18GB versions are hard to find, and expensive. but you might be able to trade.

PS - I'll send you the 2940UW specs separately.

Subject: [PCI] SEAGATE CHEETAH 18GB 10000RPM SCA LVD SCSI NR
From: David Elmo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I have access to a SEAGATE CHEETAH 18GB 10000RPM SCA LVD SCSI NR,
it is an Ultra2 SCSI 80 Pin SCA and want to put it into my 7600.
The folk who sell this HD initially recommended an Adaptec 2940UW PCI card
that came with a cable but they say that this card is really only for PCs.
I know folk have discussed this prior, but now I am all ears.
They want $45 for the card and cable.
Should I buy this card and flash it somehow? (How?)
Or go for some other option.
Assume I have to go ahead somehow with this HD.

Appreciate advice.

David Elmo
