Battery's probably dead, test the voltage under load.

Also try 'recharging' the battery.  I know 'it can't be done' but i've
zapped a small current into a dead battery and had it operate the pram for
a short time.  Only practical as a test to see if it really is the battery
without spending $$$ for a new one.
