Welcome to the insane asylum.... :-) >I recently acquired a PM 9600/350 to replace my old PTPro200 and I'm >planning to transfer my Sonnet G4/450 card to it along with adding mucho RAM >and a few other things (see below). > Nice machine. I have a 9600/200 with a NewerTech G3/300 upgrade that I transferred from my 7500. Also added some RAM from a couple other machines, bringing it up to 480MB. Currently have a pair of TwinTurbo 128 video cards in the machine (one's the Twin-Turbo 128-3D, the other is a 128M8), a 3Com 10/100 ethernet card, and an Adaptec 2940W/UW SCSI card. Three hard drives, ranging from an older Micropolis ST-4110 AV drive, through a Quantum Fireball 3GB, to a Seagate 9.1GB Cheetah. Stock 12X Panasonic CD-ROM drive. >First, though, I have a question about what seems to be an auxiliary fan >that came with it. It appears to be something that was part of an AVID >addition at one time. At least it mentions "Avid" on the fan. This wasn't >something that was standard, was it? Can I remove this fan? It is very loud. >There is another fan attached to the access panel, which I assume is the >stock fan for this Mac. Shouldn't that be enough? The processor is the >standard 604e card that should be with this model. Besides, I'm going >replace it with the G4/450 upgrade anyway. I've tried to find schematics to >clear all this up for me but I can't seem to find anything on the web. > As others have said, you can delete it, unless you plan to completely load the machine with cards, drives, etc. >Second, I'm planning to add a Sonnet Tempo HD/PCI card, a Tango 2.0 >Firewire/USB combo card, and a Lite-On 52x32x52 CD-R/RW to the machine. Has >anyone had experience with these products? Warnings? Tips? > Not here, but one of these days, I may try'em out... >I noticed in the archives several threads about PCI card issues, but I >didn't see these products mentioned. > The only issue I've come across is that, on my machine's board, slot A1 and B1 are dead. I have a spare board, which originally was in this machine, when I swapped it for another, after having PRAM issues and trying what seemed to be a good PRAM battery in it. Turns out the PRAM battery was dead, after only 3 years of usage. Was one of the french ones, instead of the Taidran batteries that almost never seem to die. >Any wisdom is gratefully appreciated. > >Phil >-- >Phil Normand >Normand Design >www.normanddesign.com >[EMAIL PROTECTED] > -J -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
