To Peter, Adrian, Paul and John: Thanks for your tips. I didn't find a 9600 manual at LEM though I HAD read the upgrade info before. I'm going to try the OS upgrade (from a complete iMac software install CD purchased from OWC) and see how that goes. According to the Charles Moore article at http://lowendmac.com/misc/04/1213.html I can go directly from 8.6 to 9.1 without trying to find 9.0. Any opinions on that?
Also, now that I'm looking at the Lite-On CD/R, I'm not sure it will actually fit in the 9600. It seems too small. I'll have to call OWC about that -- they told me it would work. Hmmmmmmmm!
