A few comments if I may:

80 MB is not "a hefty" amount of RAM, I give IE about that for itself.

"I wish you would it's very clear that neither myself nor the other party is
going to budge on this topic or what we believe". How clear is this? It
would be sad if true. Views are amenable to reason if the views are based on
reasons.

Yes, it is certainly a thought to have a machine just for online and other
machines with valuable stuff for working off-line and safe. I'm a bit
tempted myself re the PC I sometimes use. But on the main machine I work in
9.1 and have no trouble. The problem would be the inconvenience of
transferring stuff from the internet (and these days, so much is gotten and
transacted this way) to the isolated machines. To do the transfer (eg. a
program or text file or pdf or whatever) one would need to check it for
nasties anyway, thus partly spoiling the advantage and raising the worry.
For one-way transfers from the off-line to the on-line machine (via CD or
zips), this would be only a minor inconvenience.

Now, something a little more controversial. May I say I enjoy Bruce's
passionate remarks on Microsoft. What is distasteful is the mindless
knocking of MS by some. Whatever you think about Bruce's views, they are not
mindless, he always gives reasons and arguments and background. And while
being so daring, may I say that in comparison to some recent postings which
have so outrageously failed to edit the quoting, a post with a bit of actual
guts should be welcomed. When I become king, Bruce will have a special
dispensation to say whatever he likes in whatever forum he chooses. Others
will be tortured terribly for not editing even a small grammatical
particle... :)
