Thanks to everyone for excellent suggestions. Over the next few nights I'll
chip away (well, you know what I mean) at the various possibilities you have
mentioned -- re-seating the RAM, checking connections, cleaning CD-ROM,
running NU or TTPro2, zapping PRAM, etc -- and let you know what happens....
fyi: the OS9.1/8.6/8.1 install disks are original non-machine specific boot
disks; tried the floppy with original OS7.5.5 software (egads, just gave my
age away) and it didn't take, got a hunch one of your suggestions will work
though because it "seems" like it wants to go.... I'm thinking if I have to
I could put the HD in my 9600 and try formatting and loading the system on
it there... just don't want to mess with a system that is working flawlessly
and that I need for my work.

This list truly is one of the most helpful and friendly lists I've ever been
on (even an occasional flame-war is rather entertaining :^).

Cheers,
Rick
