Let's see, I've used them as clocks, for email, a TN3270 terminal emulator, there is a great little network game program called Game Master that I get kick out of by setting up a couple of compacts back to back to play battleship or chess, oh and Cliff Johnson's "Fool's Errand" which only runs the way intended on System 6.0.8 or lower, they make great word processors with an old version of Word or WordPerfect or MacWrite, print servers for non-appletalk printers, they can even be webservers or email servers (with some limitations of course).
