So with your "encourgement" I managed to get the card into the slot with a final mighty heave. Then I installed some USB driver software (I am running OS 9.1), restarted the machine and tried plugging in a little jump drive. The LED on the jump drive came on, but the drive did not show up on the desk top. Any suggestions??

Make sure you have USB support extensions v1.4.1 in the extensions folder and they are activated.
Perhaps they were not installed.
