Appreciate your advice here Lars, I may look into all this a bit more
deeply. Have found stuff on all this now... At the moment, I have not much
of a clue. I am wary of doing all the things I am reading about on my 7600
as this is a working machine, and puts bread on the table (and what bread,
the local bread shop is possibly one of the best in the world). Maybe I will
try it on a spare 7300 I have. For now, it is still easier to turn on my
SE30 for the occasional game of Sargon IV chess.

I read in the documentation or discussions re this matter things like:

"A version compiled for Macintosh 680x0 is now included. So that it can run
inside Mini vMac, this version emulates a Macintosh Plus with only 2M of
memory instead of 4M. This is more amusing than useful. Since it is so very
slow, I've not tested it much."

which are a worry. But what do I know about this matter? My feeling is that
it is an uncertain road. But a most interesting one!

Simple question: who has a legacy machine running OS 9 (or thereabouts,
*not* X) and has successfully and regularly run software written for the old
00, 20, 30 processors (plus, SE30) using this software? Not experiences on
linux or windows or anything else, on OS 9 on powermacs 7600-like?

David Elmo

(Suppose it ran brilliantly on the 7600, how would I feel if the power of
the G4 upgrade and 1 MB backside cache and 800+ MB RAM on my 7600 wiped the
floor with me? It is hard beating it regularly on my SE30 *without* taking
any moves back... I noticed a jump in its ability when I moved from the plus
to the SE to the SE30. Those were the days eh?)
