The truth is, these older machines are seriously long in the tooth in their original forms, so I'm guessing that most in here have extensively upgraded their pre-G3 powermacs. What I'd like to know is how extensively people have upgraded their powermacs over the years, and to hear what they've done. I ask, because I have the urge lately to upgrade the one limiting factor on omy 7500- the motherboard. I'm especialy curious to hear about anyone that has upgraded their powermacs with newer motherboards and what options I might have with new motherboards. Brian
My Power Macintosh 5500/225 is upgraded with: a Sonett L2 400 MHz G3 with a 1 Mb L2 Cache 128 Mb RAM, the max it'll accept a 13 Gb Hard Drive a USB/FireWire OrangeLink+ PCI card, works great the TV Tuner the video out card
and that's all. I'm thinking of a CD-RW, internal ,of course. Any tips?
The MOBO upgrade is not cost effective. Better go for a G3 upgrade. They are not very expensive, so if you can, go for the G3.
Best regards.
