Purely a matter of persona choice. I love MacHardware and hate to pass up neat stuff at garage sales.
I'm using a G4 9600/800 as my computer of choice here in the Double Click office, but it is networked to another similarly equipped box, a G4 Daystar Genesis MP and to a stock 604e Genesis MP 800+. The 9600 has OS9.1 and OS8.6 on it and the Genesis runs 10.2.8 almost exclusively. The G4s both have USB & Firewire and ATA PCI interface cards and ATA drives, all of it, that is all of the upgrades grabbed on the Low End Mac SWAP List or eBay. I can use these dinosaurs for word processing and email because Quark 5 runs on them (and because the rest of the network is G3 and G4 towers and a iMac and an eMac and new iBook).
