NEVER tap power from the motherboard.

If you need +12 volts, get it from Pin 1 of any handy disk drive
connector (Pin 2 is the +12 volts return).

If you need +5 volts, get it from Pin 4 of any handy disk drive connector
(Pin 3 is the +5 volts return).

The connector is an AMP (commercial) Mate-N-Lock, available as a "carded"
combination of a male shell, a female shell, four make pins and four
female pins, at many local electronics distributors, for about $3.00. A
standard part on any PC, anywhere.

Also available "loose" from Allied, Digi-Key, Newark and the other "usual
suspects" distributors.

Note well: there is also a "Universal Mate-N-Lock", and this is a
completely different connector series.
