Yes, for years I have had it "on" on the CD-Rom drive and it is not clear to
me if any problems I have had occasionally are due to this. Probably not as
I have mainly managed well (the occasional CD that won't mount but which I
often found a reason for). Anyway, given your experience, it seems more
principled to have it off on my 7600 which supplies its own TP.
