I used my 7200 90 in stock form for over two years.

Now it is a Hybrid, CPU slot mobo, G3 . USB, OS 9.1 And barely
 holding onto the net.

Just out of curiosity, how fast is it running at with the G3?

Someone on the PCI list a while back said something along the lines of
"400MHz is the minimum speed you need to surf." I can kinda see what
they're getting at.

Most web surfing could be done at 33 MHz in my opinion!

The biggest limitation is the speed of the ISP connection.

But the added ge-gaws of the browser demand more.

The bigger the web page the bigger the java load. the bigger the browser that is needed. And handle all of the other extension overload we bloat our systems with. On the Powerbook list folks are still asking how to surf with PB 190s with OS 7.6!

So no one can tell me you NEED 400 MHz!

More is better but a balanced system can negotiate albeit at a slower pace and some things will be missed or impossible. But they are probably not that important anyway.

The biggest load on the net for a CPU, I believe, is streaming video.

My hybrid runs at 300MHz and I get a lot of use out of it. Wish I could play streaming video. But I am sometimes surprised by a well designed website that will show me something unexpected on my humble setup.

I have used much faster PCs on broadband and still had to wait for a page when there is a peak load on the net.
