The point of iCab's built-in syntax checker is to give you something to look at, besides the raw HTML file, when you're trying to figure out what went wrong.
This is necessary because Microsloth broke HTML. HTML, XML, CSS, etc, all have specific syntaxes that should be followed. But MS added "enhancements" and made it permissable to use broken syntaxes. Their purpose was to make sure pages could only be "properly" displayed in IE...
Also, it is hard to figure things out when most of the documentation is in German.
