Hi,
I am sure this is a simple question, but:
If I get an internal SCSI drive, can I add it to the
existing hard drive and not lose all the stuff already
on the drive? I don't even know if the existing drive
is SCSI. I haven't opened it up yet to look around,
or pulled out my manual. I just thought I'd ask
because I think many of you could probably answer my
question and perhaps offer some advice on the process.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jolien
Your needs might better be served by picking up an inexpensive ATA
card, which will plug into an available PCI slot and allow you to hook
up the kind of drive you can buy at Staples or such for much less. Last
week, Staples was offering a 120 gig Maxtor for $69. Even if the card
costs you $75 or so (check Other World Computing, etc. for deals on
legacy equipment such as this) you'll be money ahead over a SCSI drive.
You won't need the fastest card. I put an ATA 33 in my PTP 250 several
years ago and it works fine. Forget what I paid, but it wasn't much
then and probably is much less now.
The other advantage is that you don't need to mess with your existing
drive. Leave your system on it and move your applications to the new
drive and add more new drives to the card as you need them.
Good luck.
