Listers & Listerines: I just got a PowerComputing PowerTower Pro 225 with Apple AV monitor this week, cast off in disgust by a fellow I work with who was TOTALLY defeated my SCSI voodo.
The poor fool picked it up more or less stock (with only 32 megs of RAM and no PCI cards except for the Twin Turbo tt8mb8-FA)and imediately put a couple of small 7200 RPM SCSI Baracudas into it, and a SCSI Creative CD burner, a NEC CD reader, a SCSI Zip drive, and a SCSI DVD player and terminated nothing. It was a real dogs breakfast and nothing worked properly except for the Zip drive and one of the HDs. I tried to explain the vagaries of SCSI but he has been a Pentium user too long and his brain doesn't work right. Anyway, he eventually pulled out all of the drives except for the CD-ROM and littlest Baracuda and gave up on it and gave it to me. The only upgrade he did is that it now has eight 32-meg DIMMs instead of a pair of sixteens. What a delightful little computer it is! Snappy under OS9.1 and oodles of nice features. Lots of internal cooling with a BIG fan positioned strategically over the processor. Are there any PCI upgrades that the PTP 225 can NOT take ?? I notice it has 8 DIMM slots, and my 9600 and Daystar Genesis MP 800+ both have 12 DIMM slots. How diffeent is the logic board in these 8-DIMM clones??? It appears that the internal bus runs at only 45 MHz. Is this a problem ?? Wazoo __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
