8500's are real picky with RAM in my experience. (I have two) Try
your best pair of RAM in slots
A4 and B4 . All others empty. Add more RAM later if it boots OK.
Best of luck,
Rick
I have a PowerMac 8500 that refuses to boot, even from an OS 8.5 CD.
It gets past the sad mac icon, shows the Mac OS 8.6 Welcome ...
screen, shows the Silverlining disk drive icon with both drives
appearing to pass muster, but stalls at that point.
From the OS CD, it gets further, loading the desktop screen, shoing
the OS CD icon in upper right screen, adds the time, loads a few
extensions which persist for a few seconds and disappear, and then
we stall with that loading indicator showing about 1/4 complete.
I have cleaned the contacts for the CPU card and the disk drive
cables coming off the top of the motherboard.
Any ideas will be appreciated
Thanks
Gary
