Can't figure why repeated boots would semi-solve such boot problems (strange!). It's probably my/our minimal understanding of intracacies of computers; but sometimes, "just checking and cleaning everything that connects to something". > Jim Kilponen wrote: > > > > *continuation of "[PCI] MAC 8500 won't boot", plus install > > CD/copy/questions. > > > > I had similar no-boot prob's w/my PM8500; tried many tips of other listers, > > some which I listed on the Re: to the above post. Dave, hate to hear your 7600 boots need repeats (go w/that 'til you're redi to dig?) and sure wish I knew what my initial no-boot prob.was! Trusting TechTool, it said "OS9.1 Finder was corrupted and T/T can not repair". So, I wiped the HDD, lost 9.1, thinking I could get by with OS8.6, but 'copy' won't load. I am back to OS 8.0 & 8.1. I tried everything suggested, finally gave up and am flailing to get back, where I was. T/T might've been right but on another HDD test, T/T Passed what it 1st said was Bad. Seems to me that the fatter OS's just have more to go wrong, and w/more multiples. I got PC Exchange & D & T C/P's from another OS8.1 HDD; they're working OK now. Kinda gun-shy about going back up to 8.6 and/or 9.1. I like the feel of OS 8.'s, but my digicam apps. crave the higher OS's. I may have to use the 35mm film cameras again. At the risk of redundancy (and present needs), I am repeating my previous request: > > I have OS 8.6 Install CD 'copy', but install won't finish, says "has > > problem reading > > the Tome". Then, after dragging separate System Folder items to HDD, to go > > around > > proper install, it says "You cannot use copied items for startup drive! > > Mount CD". > > I am awaiting a lister who may send 8.6 & 9.1 test copies (same prob.may > > occur). > > > > Anyone else have OS 9.1 Install CD, to go on a PM8500, poss. w/9.1.x+ > > update to > > sell to me?
