Hi listers,
as there seems to be a lot of expertise on this list in the matter of
PCI IDE controller cards, let me ask one question here: I have a ACARD
AEC-6880 M (actually it is marked 6280M and corresponds to a 6280
optically, but logically it thinks it is a 6880 and appears as such in
ASP, accepted the firmware upgrade for the 6880 without a glitch and
drives two HDs just fine, currently in a B&W G3 Rev.1 with 10.3.9) that
I would like to use in one of my System 9 PowerMacs (6400, 5400, 7600,
7500 etc.) But I can't find OS 9 drivers anywhere, ACARD's website
offers download of OS X drivers only, all they have for OS 9 is
firmware upgrades. Are there no OS 9 drivers for the Mac, or does the
card need no driver with OS 9 as it is built into the card BIOS, or is
it just me? In the B&W, I can't boot from OS 9.2.2 since I installed
the card, it sort of hangs in the boot process, while Classic runs just
fine from the same system folder under 10.3.9. I did exchange a couple
of eMails with the ACARD people but all they finally wanted was getting
the card into their hands to "repair" it, but I guess the shipping to
Taiwan alone would surpass the actual value of the card, let alone the
cost of repair and shipping it back to Germany. Any help to put it to a
new use would be greatly appreciated.
