Hi all - - My 8500 has begun acting up again, I can't seem to solve these:
1) SystemProfile says "the startup device has been chosen, however Apple System Profiler cannot determine which SCSI device it is." Devices&Volumes says ID=0 (Quantum Fireball 1080-S, 1GB, 745MB available). No other HDD. 2) It never boots first try, does on forced boot. It occasionally freezes when I click, then start to drag an icon, on desktop or in folder(s). Sometimes, clicking on icon to open an applic. does nothing, then freezes. Only applic. usually open is Stickies- don't know if it would cause a freeze. * Would a failing PRAM battery be a cause of either problems, 1) or 2)? I've run Disc 1st Aid & TechTool 2.1.3, defragged, optimized, r/b desktop. Have 176MB RAM, 4-32's, 3-16's (just noticed A3 slot not shown- thought I had 16MB in it) *Could that cause freezes?...Gads, I hate tearing into box. If I do, I'll then check termination, maybe change ID to 1. And try diff. HDD. And check contacts. And reset CUDA. And begin extension sleuthing...arrgh. *Are pairs interleaved: A1 & B1, etc., or: A1 & A2, etc.? *Would unpaired RAM (or a dead stick in a pair) cause a conflict? Specs: PM 8500, ID 69, w/Sonnet300, PowerPC G3, MachineSpeed=306MHz Finder=OS 8.6, System=OS 8.6 US, Active Enabler=None *(is one needed?) USB Card, pci1095,670 - slot $B1 Display Card, IMS, tt128mb - slot $C1 Iomega ZIP100, internal, ID=5 Disc cache=5.5MB, Virtual Memory is Off L2 cache= [EMAIL PROTECTED] (backside), L3 cache= none External L2 cache (was removed after installing proc. card > OK?) Memory Performance= 50.6MB/sec (64-bit) *I'll appreciate any help with these repeating aggravations. If anyone has matched pr. of 32MB, 168 pin DIMMS, FPM or 5-volt EDO, 60/70 ns and/or fresh 3.6 volt PRAM batt's, reasonable *please e-m me, off-list* Thanks!
